It’s presumably been a chaotic month for Tom Hanks, who announced two weeks ago that he had tested positive for the new coronavirus. Since then, his Instagram has become a bastion of calm, comfort, and incredibly endearing activities (he does laundry, plays gin rummy, and takes naps!)
However, just because Hanks is willing to play the dad who doesn’t know how to properly spread Vegemite, that doesn’t mean he’s not going to dish out tough love when we need it. Hanks took to Twitter on Sunday to issue some words of caution to those who can’t seem to stop going out in public:
“Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give to to anyone—you don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no?” wrote Hanks, with a strong air of “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.” He also confirmed that he and Wilson were feeling better two weeks after their first symptoms, and promised us that “if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts…this, too, shall pass.” Let’s take his words to heart and continue to practice social distancing, shall we?
Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson, who also tested positive for COVID-19, has been keeping busy as well, posting a video to Instagram of herself rapping along to the 1992 Naughty by Nature hit “Hip Hop Hooray.” (Clearly, Hanks and Wilson’s aspiring rapper son Chet Hanks comes by his talents honestly.) She’s not lip-syncing, either; she’s fully rapping, which officially makes her and Hanks contenders for Most Embarrassing/Adorable Celebrity Parents award.
